Submit Abstract

Submit Abstract
Abstract Submission Deadline: 31 May 2018

Authors are invited to submit a standard format abstract for either of the two paper types described below, via the online abstract submission system. (Please note: Submit via the abstract submission system and NOT via the journal WEAR webpage).

If preferred, authors also have the opportunity to present their work at the conference in the form of a poster. All abstracts will be reviewed and authors will be notified about the acceptance by July 1st 2018.

Conference Topics:
  • Sliding Wear
  • Fretting Wear
  • Impact Wear
  • Abrasive Wear
  • Elevated Temperature Wear
  • Lubricated Wear
  • Coatings
  • Wheel/Rail Contact
  • Theory, Modeling and Simulation
  • Biotribology – hard materials
  • Biotribology – soft materials
  • Polymers and PMCs
  • Ceramics and CMCs
  • Metals and MMCs
  • Erosion and Erosion-Corrosion
  • Wear Testing and Monitoring
  • Friction Materials including Brakes
  • Tribocorrosion
  • Wear of Tools and Tooling Materials
  • Role of Third Bodies during Wear
  • Surface Texturing
  • Marine Applications
  • Friction and Wear under Vibratory Contact
  • Engine Tribology
  • Renewable Energy Applications
  • Others

Three types of contributions that fit the conference scope are invited:

(1) full-length research-quality papers that include rationale for the work, sufficient characterization of materials and test methods and analysis of findings and mechanisms.
(2) case studies that describe effective engineering solutions to practical wear problems or the development of useful, new wear testing methods.
(3) engaging posters that address a specific tribological topic that has academic or industrial relevance to WOM attendees and the greater tribology community.

All categories will be reviewed for quality and conference relevance, with the paper submissions undergoing full peer review for technical quality.

Manuscript Review and Publication

If the abstract is accepted for oral presentation, a full manuscript (“Research Paper” or “Case Studies”) must be submitted by September 3rd 2018. Instructions on where to submit the manuscript will be provided in the abstract acceptance email.  This manuscript will be peer-reviewed, and only upon final acceptance for publication in the special issue of WEAR, can it be presented orally. All manuscripts will then be assigned to certain category-field editors by the editorial chairman and forwarded to a minimum of two reviewers. This process has proved to be fast and reliable during prior WOM conferences. The entire reviewing, editing, and revising process will only be handled via Elsevier’s online submission system. No parallel routes or shortcuts are accepted.

The final deadline for acceptance will be February 1st 2019. The acceptance of a paper after peer-review is absolutely mandatory in order for an oral presentation at WOM2019. The acceptance of a paper is optional for poster presentations. Further information is included on the WOM2019 website.

Research Papers

(Final manuscript, if accepted, 10-20 double spaced pages including figures):

Original research papers reporting novel research results on the conference topics are invited.
Papers should include rationale for the work, sufficient characterization of materials, topography and test method specifications so that other researchers can duplicate the experiments and appropriate analysis of findings and mechanisms. Submissions will be held to high standards with regards to the understanding of wear and for clarity of writing. Awards will be given for the best papers. The submission of a paper that simply varies test parameters but fails to justify their selection on the basis of a proposed model or an application is strongly discouraged.

Case Studies and Test Methods

(Final manuscript, if accepted, 5-10 double spaced pages, including figures):

These contributions should be specific to an application or service, failure analysis, or solutions to specific wear-related problems. Papers in this category should clearly describe the service or application in sufficient detail to define the issues and solutions and must include characterization of materials, topography and test methods.

Posters

Well attended poster sessions reporting new research results will also be held on several days during the program. Posters should include sufficient characterization of materials, topography and test method specifications so that other researchers can duplicate the experiments. In order to be included in the Conference Program and website as poster (without paper), abstracts must be submitted via the WOM2019 website no later than February 1st 2019.

Awards

The editorial team for the peer review process will determine the top three manuscripts and the poster session team will determine the top three posters presented at WOM. These selections and their authors will be recognized with awards during the conference.

Language and Units

The conference language is English; SI units must be used, and papers must be original contributions, not containing material previously published or accepted for publication elsewhere

For revisions or queries regarding papers already submitted

If you do not receive acknowledgement for your abstract submission or you wish to make any essential revisions to an abstract already submitted, please DO NOT RESUBMIT your abstract, as this may lead to duplication. Please contact us (Please do not email credit card information under any circumstances) with details of any revisions or queries. Please quote your reference number if you have one.
