International Conference on Biotribology

4- 9 April 2027 | Banff, Alberta, Canada

We are very pleased to announce the continuation of the International Biotribology conference which will be held in conjunction with the 26th International Conference on Wear of Materials to be held at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Banff, Canada from 4-8 April 2027.

Biotribology plays an important role in many aspects of our everyday life, from the functioning of articular joints and the comfort of contact lenses to the behavior of cells and the development of skin injury, such as blisters and bedsores. It is a multidisciplinary field which combines biology, materials, chemistry, surface physics, mechanics and medicine. The aim of the biotribology meetings therefore is to bring together researchers from across the scientific, clinical and engineering spectrum, to promote communication across the different disciplines and to provide a platform for the presentation of new work.

Our meeting, organized in conjunction with the 26th International Conference on Wear of Materials (WOM), builds on the successes of the previous ICoBT meetings and two more recent ICoBB meetings. These Biotribology conferences were attended by approximately 200 delegates, with a program containing over 150 oral and poster presentations. The meetings were attended by a diverse audience and sessions covered topics ranging from fundamental science to industrial and clinical applications.

The Biotribology conference in 2027 will take us to the beautiful mountain area of Banff, where we introduce a new schedule to the conference, meaning that we join forces with our colleagues from WOM. The interaction with WOM will allow an even larger scientific exchange, benefitting from mutual topics of interests, such as tribocorrosion, wear particles and development of wear quantification technologies for soft tissue.

Contributions are welcomed from scientists, researchers, engineers and clinicians working in academia, industry and medicine on fields such as orthopaedic surgery, dentistry, biomechanics, biomaterials, cosmetic chemistry, biophysics and biomimetics. The topic of research must be predominately tribology and include a biological surface as part of the interface (e.g. articular cartilage, skin, mucosa) or have a direct impact on biological function (e.g. prosthetic joints, dental implants).
