Peter J. Blau

Peter J. Blau received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Lehigh University, and a Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from The Ohio State University. His career includes military service at the U.S. Air Force Materials Laboratory, the U.S. National Bureau of Standards (now called NIST), and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) where he led its Tribology Research User Center. In 2014, Peter founded Blau Tribology Consulting in North Carolina. The author and co-author of six books and more than 180 journal articles, Blau is a Fellow of ASM International, ASTM International, and STLE. For six years he was co-editor-in-chief of Wear journal and remains a member of its editorial advisory board. His association with the Wear of Materials Conferences began in 1979, and he currently serves as the conference historian. In 2011, the Peter J. Blau Best Poster Award was established in recognition of his long-standing contributions to WoM. In addition to consulting, Peter enjoys improvising jazz on the piano, lecturing to community groups, and collecting sand from around the world.
